PRESIDENT’S REPORT:

· Communications:

       Debbie thanked Lesa Keith for doing such a wonderful job on the Buzz Newsletter.

She said that it is very informative and a great way to get information out to the Brier School Community.  Another way is of course our WEB Site which is kept up to date by Bob Cuplin.

Kathy Saneto keeps the bulletin board and reader board up to date with current events.

Julie Whittles does the Tuesday packets. Thanks to all those folks who help keep us informed.

· Best Practices tip for this meeting is that we should recognize our volunteers in some way.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:                                                           

Given by:  Tori Thomas

• There will be 3 assemblies for the kids – one on bullying, a musical, and story telling.
• Mr. Sonnen has scheduled an author to come and visit Brier Elementary.
• Mark Givens’ position has been posted and there is a community event scheduled to say “Good Bye” on December 18 in the Brier Elementary Gym. Stars will be performing.
• It is being looked into how much it would cost to fix the sound system.

Staff is doing well. Penny will put a note in each teacher’s box letting them know how much of their allowance they have left.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Committee: Site Council Report

• Site Council is working on getting Parent Coordinators in classrooms, there was some discussion

about this.

Committee:  Membership

• There was no report at this time.

Committee: Programs

· Holiday Shop will be in the library on Wed. Dec. 12^th from 3:45-6pm; Thurs. Dec. 13^th 12:15-1:30pm and 3:45-6pm; Fri. Dec. 14^th from 12:15-1:30pm and 3:45-6pm. Still have some time slots open for volunteers.

Committee: Fundraising

· Entertainment Books – Sales exceeded expectations.

      We had about 30 books not returned,but that is normal.  The company gave us enough books to give

      to each teacher and to each PTA board member.

· Distribution day for the Fall fundraiser orders went well.

Committee: Social Events

• Skate Party – The Food Bank was very appreciative of the donated food. 

• Pool – Swim Party is scheduled for January 26^th, 2008.

Committee: Volunteer

• Carnival is coming up.  We will start the planning in January.  Need lots of volunteers.

Committee: Nominating

Given by: Debbie Dunne

• The nominating committee is Ken Bogle, Mandy Webb and Tiffany Morgan.  Excecutive Board

Positions have a 1 year term, but not more than 2 consecutive years, so all positions will be open for nominations. Our current President, Vice President of Programs, and Treasurer are serving their 2^nd consecutive year.

       That does not mean that they can not be a board member next year. They can serve another

       position if they choose to and are nominated. The committee will take nominations and the

       general membership will vote at the March meeting.

Committee: Reflections

· The chair is Adrienne Schippers.

The 20 winners will be announced at an upcoming assembly or Adrienne will go to each classroom.

It hasn’t been decided how the winners will be notified.

· The Directory for 2007-2008 school year is done and went out. Thanks to Dana Edwards and Judy Edwards.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

Simple Majority

• Passed. Yeah!!!!!
• Our first involvement with legislative issues was very successful.

In Feb. PTAs from around the state will be going to Olympia for “Focus Day”.

We would like to encourage anyone interested in this to attend.

PTA Donations Update

Given by: Debbie Dunne

• Debbie reported on how Charlie and Faye O’Neil would like their donation spent.  They would like

To have a First Aid Program for 5^th and 6^th Graders. Cathy Jackson has with been in contact with the Red Cross and they have a First Aid/Babysitting class that they can offer, with the classes being held at the Red Cross. PTA has opened a separate account for this money and will have a separate report for how/what the money was used for. The rest of the money could go for risers and current programs – like increasing books for the library and getting an “ART CART” , etc….

• The second donation is from Adrienne Schippers’ mother for $1000.  She has said that she would like at least $200 to go to the Reflections Program and the rest of the money be used for art related programs.  A line item for Donations -  Art Enrichment will need to be added to the budget at the next general membership meeting.

• Penny E. said she had looked into Jason Weber donating $200 to Brier PTA for every Refinance or Home loan through him at NETWORK MORTGAGE SERVICES and there were not any problems with us promoting that.

NEW BUSINESS:

Arts Committee Update:

Given by: Debbie Dunne/ Tori Thomas

• Art Committee is made up of Tori Thomas, Mary McBride, Gail Yampol, Erin Walsh, Debbie Dunne and Melissa Tomlinson-Newell.  There was discussion about when an art cart should be

purchased.  Tori is working with the teachers to create an “art plan”  to align with state requirements.

ESD Community Partners Update:

Given by: Debbie Dunne

• The PTA received a check for $1000 from the District as a “refund” of money we had granted to

the ESD for the field improvements.  The PTA strongly disagrees with this amount and will not

deposit the check at this time.  More research will be done to find out the exact amount PTA is really owed.

• Buzz:   Next Buzz is out January 15th

                         Articles are due December 21st

Next meeting will be at Brier Elementary in the Library.
